Typographic Design
Digress Font Design: On an occasion I like to design fonts for fun or for personal reasons, bellow is a font design known as "Digress" originally design to be used for simple headers use, minimal text/reading purposes. The font was designed fully in Adobe Illustrator and brought to life with the the FontSelf plugin. This font was designed with both thick and thin stoke lines varying from Horizontal and vertical stem lines. Counters and corners have soft round edges intended to be easy on the eye as they are read.
Traffic Font Design: Born from client work, this version of "traffic" is all capital letters, has bold lines, sharp inner fillets for all counters or corners facing in ward on each glyph. All outer corners are rounded and strengthen the hold of the viewers eye during the reading of each character. The design for this font is based of the view I had from the 17th floor of an apartment in Los Angeles overlooking a busy intersection of Figueroa BLVD. Seeing the Traffic, spawned the idea for this font.
Wiltse Script Font Design: This font has a deep emotional and personal meaning to me and the family I designed it for. A dear friend, Brett Wiltse, passed away and as one of my closest friends I wanted to find a way to keep him alive in memories. I was asked to write a letter to a close family member of his celebrating an important mile stone, and it occurred to me that it would be more powerful if the letter came through in the hand writing of Brett who was originally tasked with writing the letter. I took some handwriting samples from letters my dear friend had written me and use the letter forms to build a font. I had to build many letters and punctuation from scratch that could not be found in the examples I had. So what was born was "Wiltse Script". Now every time the family wants to remember or read something from their missing family member they can type out this font, and it will almost be like Brett is writing to them again.
